世界盃禁慾還是不禁慾2006/6/14
參加世界盃的總教練請注意，研究顯示選手比賽前一天享受性行為基本上並不會影響隔天場上的表現。在重要比賽前夕要求參賽選手禁慾以全力備戰幾乎是個不成文的慣例。
歷史上最早出現相關的記載出現在四千年前的美索不達米亞，
近代支持此說的另一重要代表則是前世界拳王阿里。
而現在正在舉行的四年一度的世界盃，相當多的總教練為了確保球員場上的競爭力，
自然就對球員下達禁慾令。
根據近期出版的英國版Marie Claire雜誌對世界盃參賽球員顯示，
的確有相當多的球員相信禁慾對球場上表現有幫助，
而決定在比賽期間克制自己的慾望。但是對禁慾可以提高運動員的場上表現這種說法，
一直沒有生理學上的確切證據。
所以加拿大McGill University的Ian Shrier找了一些運動員來做實驗。
他發現運動員在發生性行為後十二個小時與發生性行為前踩健身車的表現相比，並沒有表現下滑的情形。
因此他認為，比賽前禁不禁慾跟選手的表現應該沒有影響。他表示運動員發生性行為之後對他的肌耐力、肌肉強度及利用氧氣的能力都沒有影響。而運動員心理層面上也一樣沒有顯著影響。
金賽性學研究所的前所長ohn Bancroft則表示，主要的問題可能是出現在男性性高潮之後的不反應期。這段時間的長短不等，從青少年的二十分鐘到中老年人的廿四小時都有。在這段期間最大的特點就是會相當放鬆，也就是會想睡覺。
但是Bancroft認為足球選手的體能都很好，基本上這不會是個問題。當然，幾乎所有專家都同意，無論是男女運動員，重要比賽前一天最重要的就是好好休息。曾經擔任美國職棒洋基隊總教練的Casey Stengel就表示，並不是性行為把選手搞垮了，而是選手滿腦子都在想這檔事，弄的一整晚都不睡而累垮的...
